Lifeguarding offers a fantastic opportunity for you to spend the summer working outside with your friends. Kentuckiana Pool Management and the other companies affiliated with the Pool Management Group hire over 3,000 Lifeguards and Pool Managers each summer, including several hundred in the Louisville area. While the job is rewarding and fun, there is also an important responsibility that comes with the position.

Lifeguard Job Description
Lifeguarding is an enjoyable and rewarding job for high school/college students and adults.
Lifeguarding requires that one be constantly alert for any dangers to the swimming pool patrons. The primary duty of a lifeguard is the safety of the patrons and swimmers. The primary responsilblities include (1) prevention of accidents, (2) enforcement of rules, (3) recognize and respond to emergencies, (4) administor cpr and first aid when required and (5) communication and documentation.
Lifeguard Job Requirements
First,to become a lifeguard, you must be certified in lifeguard training , CPR (*adult, infant, child, two-person & BVM) and first aid. The basic certification maybe obtained from several national organizations (Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis or Starguard). Classes are taught at a variety of locations - Blairwood (KPM) ; Mary T. Meagher Pool (Metro Parks); area YMCA's; Lakeside & JCC. These classes teach specified training in order for a lifeguard to successfully perform their job.
A lifeguard is a trained professional, who must be diligent and prepared to act with urgency to any given emergency. After the completion of the basic training, the guard is reguired to take and pass a water and written test with the Louisville metro board of health in order to complete the certification process.
In addition to the required certifications we assure that each Lifeguard is trained to the specific needs of a facility. We also, promote the use of the 5 minute scanning strategy as developed by Tom Griffiths, Ed. D.
